BOTHAN SECTOR HISTORY

The central hub of the New Imperial Order, the Bothan Sector is located in the Mid Rim. A relatively small sector with only four known systems, the Bothan Sector contains the primary worlds of the Bothan species who once ruled the sector from their capital of Bothuwai. The sector was heavily influenced by the Kiner Corporation who began to settle within the sector along with Tytus Escourting Incorporated.

With the creation of the New Imperial Order, the Kiner Corporation yielded control of its holdings in the Bothan Sector to the newly formed religion. A campaign of epic proportions was began by COMPNOR, driving the development and indoctrination of the Bothan Sector into the NIO. Meeting minimal resistance from the Bothan Governments initially due to the tremendous political power that the Kiner Corporation already exerted, the NIO was eventually required to forcibly remove the flagging Bothan government. As a result, the Bothan race was placed under strict regulation within the Sector and their traditional rights removed as the new human masters asserted their superiority over the Sector.

The first Imperial Governor of the Bothan Sector, Moff James Stratus was placed by the Lord Steward Garen Karrade. Swiftly mobilising the New Imperial Forces, Moff Stratus soon secured a vigilant watch over the Bothan Sector. It was not long into the affirmation of the New Imperial Order's supreme control of the sector that the pirate organisation Eidola attempted to set up a colony on the planet of Dressel. The defence forces were quickly mobilised and after many skirmishes secured Dressel and prevented the larger Eidola from gaining a foothold in the Sector.

Under New Imperial Order rule, the Bothan Sector has increased its population and economic standing exponentially. This once backwater sector is now a major centre of commerce and has seen the birth of the New Imperial Government. Citing family commitments, Grand Moff Stratus resigned from his post as Governor of the Bothan Sector. Long time Managing Director of the Kiner Corps' Corellian Engineering Corporation, Moff Ralic Feali succeeded Grand Moff Stratus as the Sector Governor.

BOTHAN SECTOR HISTORY

Paonnid System

Kothlis

The administrative center of the New Imperial Order. A planet noted for two dichotomous climates, Kothlis is split with an immense jungle in the northern hemisphere, and arid desert and lava fields in the south. In the center, uniting the two, is the expansive cityscape that houses the people and resources that run the NIO. Every day, the leaders, aides, governors, and committees gather and discuss how best to achieve the goals of the as set out by the custodians of the ideals of the New Order. These politicians are protected by a full regiment of the New Imperial Army’s best troops.

To the north, near a rocky plateau in the jungle is the Bak’tun Detention Center, where high-level detainees are held pending trial. The detention center is the most state-of-the-art in the sector, providing safety not only for inmates but for guards as well, allowing all to stay in relative comfort. Bak’tun has been hailed as an achievement in modern penal administration. In the northern jungles, the ruins of ancient cities have undergone excavation by academics. Studies find that Kothlis has been the location of some form of political capital for nearly seven millennia, and probably even farther back.

In the south, the constantly-flowing lava fields provide an attraction for tourists, and every year hundreds of thousands of visitors flock to see the epic fire and light show provided by Kothlis’ tectonic movement. The surrounding desert provides a home for many new immigrants from typically sandy planets, such as Tatooine. There, many still follow the ways of their ancestors, farming moisture to sell locally and export back to their arid home planets.

Kothlis III

Unlike the moons Kothlis I and II, the third moon is highly populated. Kothlis III is a science and research hub, and the majority of residents are scientists, particularly astronomers, astrophysicists, and lunar geologists and their families. The lack of atmosphere provides clear viewing of the stars, and powerful telescopes allow researchers to view beyond the galaxy into the greater cosmos in the endless search for life outside the galaxy. The sterile environment also provides an excellent location to produce high-tech components for all manner of machinery and computers. A recent project combining the talents of astrophysicists and lunar geologists is the hollowing out of the moon to create the galaxy’s largest particle accelerator.

Kothlis III also acts as a customs check for Kestrel Shield, where all incoming civilian ships must be scanned for contraband and illegal goods before gaining access to the station orbiting Kothlis. Kestral Shield is primarily a trading station, and is almost exclusively inhabited by civilians and fresh recruits from the NIO military academy. Thus, a checkpoint located away from the Shield provides an extra line of defense for the residents of Kothlis and the Paonnid system. This checkpoint also results in a high concentration of ISB officers, who primarily deal with customs duties and provide extra security measures. Kothlis III is the primary training center for the Imperial Security Bureau, where candidates learn Imperial law and its practical applications, as well as enforcement and policing methods.

Orion II

The cold, forbidding orb of Orion II is home to the worst criminals in Bothan Space. Separated by thousands of miles of tundra, cold desert, and arctic landscape, these dangerous men and women are kept isolated from each other and from the public-at-large, while extensive efforts are made to rehabilitate these convicts to the point where they reform and can be reintroduced into society. This rehabilitation process, carried out by IDPSE, is noted for its extraordinarily humane practices and methods. Among the various procedures are activities such as civics and history education, job training, ethics discussions, extensive interviews, and even teamwork-building courses in outdoor facilities. IDPSE’s success cannot be overlooked, as fewer than ten percent of all prisoners remain for longer than three years. In the southwest quadrant of Orion II, the New Imperial Army conducts cold-weather combat training and the Navy also tests its atmosphere-capable ships here to see how they handle in extreme conditions.

Orion IV

Roughly three years ago, Orion IV was designated as a wildlife preserve and biological research center. Three small settlements in the north provide homes and research facilities for ecologists, biologists, and environmentalists. From there, all species on planet are monitored and tracked in an attempt to learn more about the various flora and fauna not only located on the planet, but across the galaxy as well. Orion IV is also home to local natives, who live freely on the planet as they have for thousands of years. Their existence is a boon to anthropologists, who study the natives’ way of life in relation to the surrounding environs.

Elantar

The desert planet of Elantar was recently established as a large public housing project. With the Bothan economy rapidly growing, millions of humans have made their way to Paonnid and taken up temporary residence on Elantar while more permanent facilities are being constructed all across Bothan Space. As proof of Bothan Space’s attraction to all people, Elantar’s population exploded from a few thousand to nearly 900 million in the space of a few months, with the capacity to hold even more. Despite this overwhelming number, an efficient taxation policy ensures that all residents live in clean, healthy, fully supplied comfort. Over time, a large percentage of residents will spread throughout the sector, and Elantar will be redeveloped into a galactic trading center and a showpiece of the New Imperial Order’s prosperity and efficiency.

Both System

Bothawui

Bothawui is startlingly lush planet, with large, verdant grasslands, extensive jungles, and an enormous lava field. It is the native home of the Bothan people, though in recent years their numbers have been either matched or surpassed by the ongoing immigration of humans. Bothawui is moderately developed, and is home to most members of the Order’s armed forces, both in active service and retired. Much of the expansion that has occurred of late is in part to the growing number of military men who build homes and other constructions on the surface, founding new cities and towns.

Part of the NIO pension plan is to grant property to soldiers who served loyally in the NIO military. These pension plots provide continued income to a multitude of veterans, who have selflessly given years in service to the New Order. In addition to assisting veterans, many civilians are helped through the pension plan. Many veterans decide to establish small businesses, such as garages, taverns, and inns, and these businesses provide jobs and income to hundreds of thousands of residents. The major metropolis, Drev’starn, is the system’s trading center and an important location for many businesses and native industries, as well as a key information center, with news from all throughout the galaxy passing through the many information brokers and the local GNS affiliate.

Cirbanor

The icy, toxic planet of Cirbanor is understandably scarce in terms of occupants. Only a single settlement, M’Trent, houses all the inhabitants in a strong transparasteel dome. The residents are hardy explorers who mostly keep to themselves, their only contact with the outside world occurring when supply drops are made and taxes retrieved. The only exports of this planet are condensed versions of the chemicals found in the atmosphere, used in scientific experiments across Bothan Space.

Meresuil

Meresuil is similar is composition to Cirbanor, but where the inhabitants of Cirbanor are reclusive, Meresuilians are outgoing and friendly, plainly a major factor in the development of the planet as an emerging tourist attraction. The ice formations covering the planet are a work of natural art, and renowned throughout the Sector for their breathtaking beauty and complexity. The ice sculptures are the result of the miles-wide open gash in the planet, where the heat from magma radiates out and melts the miles-thick ice into unusual shapes and forms.

The only city on the planet, also called Meresuil, is composed almost exclusively of hotels and businesses that cater to visitors and workers. Meresuil is a rapidly developing success story, according to the galactic tourist industry. Roughly five years ago, Meresuil was another cold, lifeless orb numbering among the hundreds in the galaxy. Once the New Imperial Order assumed control of the system, enterprising human immigrants saw the potential value of Meresuil as a tourist center and began developing it into a luxurious resort planet. Grand hotels, fine restaurants, designer shops, and impressive entertainments were commissioned from the finest providers in the galaxy, and construction and development continues today to accommodate the rapidly-increasing visitor rate.

Moonus System

Moonus Mandel

The only rocky planet in the system, Moonus Mandel is sparsely populated, home only to a few natives who engage in farming and fishing. It is primarily a getaway planet, used by people who wish to escape the hubbub of urban life and enjoy a few peaceful, relaxing days in an idyllic setting. The planet is almost exclusively comprised of grasslands and forests, with a small ocean in the center providing miles of clean, uncluttered beaches.

The planet is also known for its breweries, and is the home of MandelAle, a popular drink throughout Bothan Space and the surrounding regions. The beauty of this planet is not only attractive to recreational tourists, but military veterans as well, and as such Moonus Mandel has a large number of pension plots spread throughout the planet’s surface. Unlike the more urbanized plots of Bothawui, the veterans here tend to lean towards farming and forestry, living much more self-sufficient lives than the inn-keeping and bar-keeping soldiers in the cities.

Moonus Trent, Gastro, and Bitter

These three large gas planets make up the “Moonus Triplets”. All three have little population, but those that are there mine the gases for use in other industrial processes. A large number of astronomers also call the triplets home, as the three planets are comprised almost exclusively of hydrogen and helium, the main components in stars. There is ongoing scientific research investigating if the triplets are the remnants of a supernova, an aborted star, or some other cosmic process. The eventual goal is to attempt to create a tiny star from parts of these planets, providing an energy source powerful enough to supply all of Bothan Space with fusion power for millions, if not billions of years

The small settlements on each planet house some of the many workers who are employed in the system in shipbuilding, for Moonus is also the shipbuilding center of the New Imperial Order. Eight highly advanced shipbuilding stations meet all manner of transportation needs for the Bothan Sector, and the presence of three large gas giants and a large star also provide gravitational testing for all ships. This testing ensures that all starships produced in Bothan Space are exceptionally strong and resilient.

Dressel System

Dressel

The primary planet in the system, Dressel is home to the Dresselians, as well as a large number of humans. Dressel is a very self-sufficient planet, requiring little in the way of imports, and most residents are very independent and hardy, the result of a self-made life. Dressel is also the headquarters of the New Imperial Army, housing Army Command as well as the Conell Military Academy, where recruits are trained to be loyal solders serving the New Order. Far from the populated centers in the north lie the Training Grounds, where military exercises occur on a daily basis, preparing the ground forces of the Order for any eventuality.
